Registering

Only one account per character, only two characters per person.

Please, if you are going to play two characters, be sure you can handle them both. It's a shame to delete a character when someone runs out of time, especially when that character has interacted with others.

Due to the nature of some of the existing and inevitable relationships that will be formed in this RP, we ask that you be 17 or older to join.

Applying for a Character

Canon characters: For canon character we do require an example in character post to show you are able to play the character properly. These example posts should be at least between 150-300 words, although we won't count you off if you only write 149

OCs (Original characters): PLEASE post each profile as a new thread with the character name in the title, that way we can avoid confusion You must fill out the following, post it in the character profile forum, and have it approved before posting in character:

Grasp of Character: If you feel you cannot get a decent grasp of your character after playing it for a month then it may be time to give it up to someone who is itching to play the character. It is only fair. We don't expect everyone to have it 100% right but mostly right would be a good idea. There are other characters to be played, we wish to add other ships, we have bad guys in need of play, you can make up an OC that can be around less and will fit your style, your needs and your time online.

GERNERAL RULES

Spoilers/News: No spoilers on the board without warning! All SPOILERS go into the OOC section of the board. This RP takes place after "Objects in Space" and before "Serenity" so there may be some foreshadowing leading up to Serenity, or we may take an entirely different path. Who knows? That's the fun of RPing!

Lurking: Not Allowed! Why join a board just to lurk and not post anything? This is a Role Playing board, which means that participation is vital for its very purpose!

Posting

No bashing, cursing or attacking members or staff.

No spamming.

Avoid excessive use of ALL CAPS, DiStOrTeD TeXt and kool t@lk. (Note: When posting in character, ALL CAPS mean your character is yelling, but please try not to yell that often and only when necessary.)

No double posting; edit your post if you need to add something else.

Threads/Posts with discussions about "illegal" software, downloads, sites, etc are not allowed and will be promptly deleted.

Threads posted in wrong forum will be moved.

Duplicate threads will be deleted/merged without notice.

We realize not everyone can be on all the time, and so we're opening the option of being in multiple threads at the same time as long as you can keep up with your tags and pings

Private Messages

PMing in excess or for no reason to the recipient is called PM spam and is not allowed.

Chain letters through Private Messages is forbidden.

Bashing, insulting or otherwise is also forbidden via PM and should be reported immediately.

Advertising

You may link to your site/board on your sig or profile.

PMing members advertising your site/board is NOT allowed.

Images/Bandwidth

DO NOT LINK IMAGES FROM THIS SITE! It takes bandwidth from the site thus taking up space

Any Art Work on this site BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE THAT CREATED THEM. So if you want to put the art (Avatars, Banners, etc) anywhere else please ask the people who created it. If I find out you took something with out permission I'm going to be very angry and you'll never hear the end of it, cuz I'm a graphic artist myself!

Signatures and Avatars: Neither should have anything offensive such as language/nudity. We ask that you keep your signatures to a simple banner with a quote or just a quote. No need for wallpapers as a signature. That slows the pages when they are loading and takes away from our RPing time! Preferable size for a banner is: 450x150 or smaller

ACTUAL RPG (ROLE PLAYING GAME) RULES:

Please make your posts longer than two lines. Anything less will be considered spam. It really isn't that hard to take a few extra sentences and describe what your character is feeling or seeing around them.

NO KILLING CHARACTERS without having talked to first one of the mods or me, and then the character you plan to kill. If it is your character, just talk directly to us.

Note: If your reason for killing your own character is simply that you don't wish to play them anymore, or you don't have the time, cuz I realize some people besides me have lives, let one of the mods know. Chances are there is someone willing to pick up your character and keep them alive!

Please remember that any rudeness or dislike that a character expresses towards your character does not reflect how the person playing that character feels about you. It just means that they are being realistic in their Role-Playing (cuz who likes everyone they meet anyway?). If you feel uncomfortable with the way your character is being treated, however, PM me or one of the mods.[/b]

If you are going to be gone for any reason for an amount of time that will cause a pause in the RPGs, please let everyone know first. You can leave a thread in the OOC explaining when you'll be gone and then reply to it when you get back.

Narration: Yes, we use narration as a device to keep the story moving along and functioning. That is the only reason for narration. Serenity is a small ship and at times a player may not be present but during an SL or scene with other present characters the need for narration arises. LOA is one reason, a plot device where a canon character is needed to do something, etc., etc. Narration is not used to move your character along between your time online. That is not fair to the narrators or other characters. Your character is your character. Plain and simple. NO GOD MODDING.

Remember that the purpose of Role Playing is to have fun! If we're not achieving that, then we truly are wasting our time

Bumping: It is allowed, but notice that they will be deleted later on, once someone has replied to the thread. But please don't post like a billion bumps. Then I might have to ban someone's ass.

Explicit Content/Language Rules: We have an NC-17 board should you choose to interact with another character sexually. DO NOT post material that could be offensive to other players in normal forums! You must PM one of the admins and ask for the password to the NC-17 board and post there or use PMs for 2 character situations.

Language: Swearing is allowed but only appropriate to the character. By example, Simon wouldn't swear unless pushed too but Jayne would in a heartbeat. Also, Chinese can be used and is encouraged, but be ready to give a definition if it's not obvious what you're saying. Links for Chinese translations can be found on the Links board.

HELPFUL TIPS

Talk to the other players: There is a PM function, nightly chats, emails, YIM and MSN and AIM, there are ways to talk to other characters. If you have a plot, an outline, an idea and storyline you're itching to tell, a heist, anything at all. Talk to the other players that can help you, put it by the MODS ... we are friendly sorts. We like help and suggestions and we are here for you. So, please, in turn, be here for us.

Canon Vs Fanon: Truth be told we are exploring the characterization of these characters. We were only blessed with 13 episodes, some books and a movie. In real life that is a mild amount of character study, we as people need to fill in the blanks. That is what RPG is, filling in blanks. We accept all canon and fanon storylines. If you have read a fan fic and you like something in there, add it to your play, expound on the characterization that the canon episodes and film have given us, things from interviews, essays. It all applies. Do not give anyone crap over something you do not feel right about. It is their character. If you feel it is OFF the mark, email/PM/YIM/MSN/AIM them and talk it out. See BOTH sides, if it still is a problem then contact a mod. We want positive feedback and RP. You are our friends and we, hopefully, are yours. We want fun and excitement and joy when we RP...not a chore, a problem or a situation.

Lots of RP versus not so much RP: Some of us have more time on our hands then others. This is fine. A few of us are rping to write fan fic, explore our characters together, or to bide our time for lack of sleep, illness, etc. Some others only can RP between school, work and so on. This is all fine. Don't make any one person feel bad because they RP too much or too little. We all have our reasons.

Interaction: All characters on Serenity have a dynamic and we worry that those dynamics are not being explored properly. Try and write a post and tag someone, anyone and see how the RP goes. We are meant to interact and learn and grow but we can't if we only play with one or two people. Think of it as homework ::WEG:: We also plan on adding other ships and other characters. Interaction is a must.

Suggestion box, OOC and the like: We use the Calendar, OOC, and Poll and suggestion sections for a reason. Please do not gloss over them in lieu of RPing. Read these threads, we might have a new SL started, might involve your character. We might have rule changes, we might have an announcement. Please read it, PLEASE USE IT!

Lastly to confirm that you've read the rules, PM either Sorsha or myself with the words UNIQUE BANALITY so we know you've read the rules.
